I've thought long and hard about this, and I have come to the conclusion that I should, and want to, cancel Multiwar. By the time you read this, I will probably already have deleted the Series Discussion Thread for the title.
The reasoning for my decision is not necessarily simple, but it is logical, and I'll lay it out in detail here. As many of you have come to learn about me, I love to create numbered or dashed lists to organize my thoughts, so that's how I'll go about addressing the issue here.
1. I don't believe I have the time to take on such an endeavor, particularly as I approach a major change in my life when I go off to college. Yes, I have successfully managed 3+ titles for months on end before, but the last few months have proven that I'm unreliable when life hits me like a baseball bat. Additionally, I have other stories I'm currently telling, which limits my time and leads into the next point.
2. I have too many stories to tell off these sites to forego all other stories and forms of storytelling in favor of my fanfiction here. I plan on going to film school next year, which will most certainly eat up my time and inspire more film work. It's what I want to do. It's my passion. Some of you may know (or be able to tell from my titles) that dialogue is possibly my favorite thing to write. It can be infectious and fun, or heart breaking and tragic. It also happens to be about 50% (at least) of screenplays. I'll admit, I also view stories cinematically, and I often struggle to display that scope with the written word. Guardians of the Galaxy has suffered because my dream is difficult to maintain in prose. I also love working with actors, as I am one. Film is my future, and I need to stop prolonging it.
3. The next six-ish months will mark a major turning point in my time with these sites, as I will be completing Guardians and Knights, both of which I have put my heart and soul into. It seems cheap to extend that "ending" with Multiwar, when I could end Guardians just as well with its finale arc. Plus, it would be truer to the title, and not cheapen its existence.
4. Delving into the multiverse is a risky proposition, if only because our universe still needs so much development. Avengers isn't even ready yet. Spider-Man is far from finished. Additionally, the event would work so much better if the characters in our universe had previously met (which isn't to say I'll ever redo the story), and I wouldn't risk stepping on anyone's toes.
5. While I may adore the story I have in mind, and love the idea of taking on both universes' characters, it would be a major assignment. It would eat up my time in a way only Knights has. I'm not sure if I'm ready to jump on board with such a continuity-heavy project again just yet. I'd also much prefer to spend that time promoting the site and getting new writers and readers to join this site.
6. I'm far more interested in completing and perfecting (to the best of my ability) the epic yet intimate Spider-Man story I have planned than taking on a whole 'nother beast. After all, Spidey is relaxing for me to write, and yet still a title I'm completely invested in. Hell, I care more for it than I do nearly any other story I've ever told. It's long form, personal, and exciting! It's far from perfect, and will continue to be so, but it's a perfect representation of my strengths as a writer.
7. I'm worn out and looking for new ideas to spark my interest in these sites again. I don't want to leave, but I'm growing cynical. The best way to keep myself invested in All Star Marvel, at the very least, is to focus on one title and not burn myself out. Multiwar is very intentionally a love letter to the past, but I'm in a state of mind where I want to move forward. I don't want to be reminded of the months on end when I was the only writer All Star had. I want to move forward to a better site, and not leave it prematurely. This is the best way for me to do so.
Yes, I too am disappointed in the cancellation of the story, but I'm far more relieved by it. It's what I need at the moment.
I'll go about the change by relabelling the recent Guardians issue and updating my plans with a solid conclusion. The new arc will simply be called "Infinity: Kree-Spartoi War."
Thank you, and that's all I have to say on the matter for now.
