I had the pleasure of getting to interview our fearless leader, Jordan! Similarly to my interview, everything posted came directly from his mouth.
1. What inspired you to take on the Fantastic Four? And what inspired your take on them?
I was inspired to take on the Fantastic Four when the site went under. I didn't want to deal with the mess that was Spider-Man, and Fantastic Four was the only other title in continuity. I really liked what Wachter had started and it was extremely unique. I had some of the notes shared between him and my brother when I came on and decided it would really work as a kind of corner-stone world-building story.
What inspired my take on them? Wachter six issues prior to his leaving the site and Hickman's run.
2. Why is this roster of the F4 unique? What makes each character important to the team and the over all story?
This roster is probably the most unique roster I've ever heard of. When my bro asked me to come onto this site, I had no idea what to expect (I certainly didn't expect to go under). I read the F4 by Wachter and my mouth dropped. When he left I knew I had to have it.
Each character is beyond important:
Johnny Storm is the only member of the Original F4 and he is the leader of the team. Valeria is cool-brained, analytical and a genius. Ben is the new kid, the only non-family member, he also has ties to the Spider-Family and he's going to be the POV character a lot of the time. As for Franklin...he's a whole different story and will be further explored in future arcs. His powers are a little different, but he will be a major player in my finale.
3. Who is your favorite character to write (in all of your series)?
Doom. I'm not sure if you guys can tell, but Doom has become somewhat my baby since I started writing F4. He is by far the funnest to characterize and when you guys see what's behind the mask, you'll flip. There is a very brief glimpse in issue #4, but you'll have to wait for the reveal.
4. Just how awesome is Drake? Nah, just kidding! What's it been like coordinating ideas and plots with Drake (me) and the other writers on the site?
Coordinating with everyone on this site has been one of the funner things I've done in a while. I have to give props to Drake for giving breath to the board and really kicking off my Relaunch initiative. I've worked mostly with him, but I have worked with other people. Silentking, who is my fellow admin, is always fun to collaborate with. We signed up for a co-written Cap title which, sadly to say, I've kind of neglected and I do feel bad about that. I've been talking to everyone, coordinating the Avengers event, and Bob mainly to coordinate the [EXTRACTED] title. As for other writers, I don't coordinate as much with them as I do Drake, SK and Bob, but I talk to them and they are fun and helpful. I hope new writers come on board though.
5. Can you tease at all the future of F4? Hulks?
Teasing at the future of both of them, I can. Fantastic Four right now I have...a lot planned. Here's what you should look forward to in the next year:
The first appearance of Reed Richards, the origin of Ben Reilly, a meeting with the Hulk, the origin of Doom, behind Doom's mask, Doom's master plan, Skrulls, Silver Surfer, and...Spider-Girl (now the Black Spider). Also, some adventures of the Original Four.
Hulks, that's just a big adventure. In the next few issues we'll be introduced to almost all of them from Banner to Rick to [EXTRACTED]. Also, THE PUNISHER! And a crossover with the Four.
6. Will your two titles tie in together at all?
Yes, yes they will crossover. The first time should be not that far off in a mini-series I'm still in the planning stages of called Science Wars.
7. Where is the rest of the original Fantastic Four right now?
The rest of the First Four are running the Future Foundation and trying to make the world a better place. We will see more of them as time goes on.
8. What major changes are being made to characters such as Ben Reilly and Bruce Banner?
I don't want to give a whole lot away on Ben or Bruce just yet. But Bruce will not be the only Hulk, if you can't tell by the title Hulks.
9. And lastly, a question you first asked me, where do you see this site in a year?
I'm the eternal optimist so I see this site thriving with enough readers and writers to have at least three full-time admins. I see dozens of titles thriving I see everything working out in the end.
Looks likes Jordan went a little bit Yoda-like on us in question five! Haha! Look forward to more of these in the future, and remember, if there are any specific questions you want answered or any specific writer you want interviewed just ask!
