Q: What is your motivation for writing Iron Man?
Mezzaro: I love the character. I love the drinking problems and I love that he is high profile and, mainly, I love how amazing he is no matter what setting or who is writing him, he has a moral code and sticks to it.
Silentking: I enjoy the character. He is one of my top ten superheroes of all time. I also saw Mezz asking for a co-writer and I decided why not. Except for Question, I was doing the nothing at the time.
Q: When writing a big name character like this, what are some things you take into consideration?
Mezzaro: When writing a big name character like this, I kind of take a couple seconds to stare at the stories I've typed up. I make sure it is the right direction because with a high profile character and story, you've got to make sure you're on track and bringing everything to the table.
SK: I just think what would be a good story about the character. It is certainly important to think hard about everything when writing a big named character because everyone will have big expectations.
Q: What will Iron Man's role be in the All Star Marvel Universe? Will he be one of the big three like in the 616 universe? Or will he play a much smaller role?
Mezz: Honestly, I haven't discussed it with anyone yet. Right now Iron Man is just Iron Man, an Avenger. And after you see the ending to Avengers Assemble, you might think that it could go either way.
SK: At the moment I am not exactly sure on the same vein as Mezzaro. It could potentially go either way.
Q: What is Tony's motivation for being Iron Man?
Mezz: Tony is conflicted. He has always had a moral compass, he has always liked to help people. He just never knew how. After his father died and he created the first model of the Iron Man armor for Military usage against terrorism, he thought he was doing the right thing. But after seeing the power of it, after realizing what he truly can do, I think that Tony wants to be Iron Man not only because he naturally wants to help people, but to atone for his sins.
SK: Mezzaro got that covered.
Q: Any little sneak peaks you can give us into your oncoming journey of Iron Man?
Mezz: I can't tell you too much, but I can tell you that you'll love it. I think that the biggest thing will be Extremis, the motivation behind several plots being laid out throughout the series.
SK: Can't say. At least without spoiling too much, heh.
Mezz: One last thing, I started Iron Man and then realized I mainly just had ideas that I liked and wanted to pursue, but not the passion to write him like I had the passion for Spider-Man or Superman. As well as being a busy guy, I'll be handing over full writing duties to All Star Silentking while, if he wants me to, staying on to edit and work with planning stories etc. with him.
Most of the ideas and stories that will be told during Silentking's tenure as Iron Man writer are just my expansions on his ideas, so you'll see much of the same tone throughout the story.
SK: Yeah, but don't worry. We got several Iron Man issues planned out before Mezzaro asked if I wanted to take over full time. Anyway, here are my answers to your questions.
