1. Who is your favorite X-Man? X-Villain?
Honestly, I’m a fan of a lot of the X-Men, as most people are. I like Wolverine (hence his place in Captain America), Colossus, Cyclops and Nightcrawler. I’m a big fan of Gambit. They each bring their own unique aspects to the team. If I had to pick one, I would have to go with Gambit. His abilities are so unique and his personality can be mixed and matched with most. That and he’s perfect for playing both sides.
As for X-Villain, that’s a bit easier. Magneto. Magneto is an amazing villain. I love his abilities, his mindset concerning mutants place in the world and his past experiences.
2. What past X-Men stories/runs inspired your take on the characters?
I like to take a bit from everything I know about the X-Men. From the comics, the TV shows, the movies and the video games. I like to combine it all into a pool of knowledge and pick and choose as I go along. I wouldn’t say any one thing in particular inspired me. I like to make my series my own, as you’ve seen with Blade and Captain America.
3. Are there any themes present in your story that really come to mind when you think of it?
Not really...
4. Why choose Bobby Drake (Iceman) as the POV for Uncanny X-Men?
Bobby isn’t the sole POV for Uncanny, but he’s definitely focused upon in the beginning. I thought bringing him in as a new member would allow the readers to get a feel for the already established X-Men team.
5. Any major "All Star" changes planned for the ASMU's Mightiest Mutants?
Any major changes planned? Not in the near near future. There are some minor ones of course. But as for major changes, I know that there definitely will be down the line, as I have several ideas forming, but at the moment there are not.
6. Can you give us any hints as to what's coming in Uncanny X-Men?
The Brotherhood. Mister Sinister. Love and betrayal. It’s all to come in Uncanny X-Men. Keep an eye on Rogue, Gambit and Toad in particular. Those are the three characters that will have the most opportunity to make major plot impact, for the best or worst.
7. Is there any hope for a crossover of any form in the near future of Uncanny?
Absolutely. There will absolutely be a crossover in the future. I’ve been in talks with another writer about another X-Men line and a possible crossover there. That would be a big crossover. If that doesn’t pan out, then there will definitely be one with either Spider-Man or Blade or one of the other characters of the ASMU.
8. Lastly, how did you find yourself writing Uncanny X-Men? And how do you react to the pressure of being the first person to establish mutants in the ASMU?
You know, it’s a very interesting feeling. We had wanted to establish the X-Men on this site for a long time, but no one stepped up to the plate. When I first joined, I chose Blade as my character because I knew he was less important and no one would be really upset if his story didn’t go according to plan. I played it safe.
Then, I took Captain America. An Avenger. And although my run with him was short, I feel I had evolved as a writer from Blade to Cap. I felt I could handle a more important piece of this Universe.
Then it was time to go even bigger. The X-Men. I had been in discussions with Jordan about taking on the X-Men and after our discussions I had taken on Uncanny X-Men. And I’m really happy I did. I’m excited to write about them and establish their place in this Universe.
The pressure is definitely there, but I hope you all enjoy it.

There's an interview subboard, Jordan. We should move it, but I'll wait till you respond.

Also, Trance, feel free to just discuss your title in general. If there's anything not in the interview you wanted to mention, say it.

I'm just really glad to be writing the title. I plan on bring a lot to it and hopefully you will all enjoy it as much as I do.
If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask. I'd love to hear some questions.

Lord knows I've got a question....sorry if this is stereotypical of me. What plans do you have for Cyclops? Obviously you don't want to spoil anything, but is there something big in store for my favorite X-Man?

Also, I believe I added an extra on into the interview that never got answered. Toad is a very underutilized "joke" character. Why is it you chose to give him an important part in your story?

Yes, I never got around to answering the question about Toad. Toad is different than your normal mutant. His powers are...well, weird. And he's a strange looking dude. An outcast of sorts. I'm going to put a spin on this character. You'll see as the story progresses, but he'll bring a unique and interesting personality to the team.
As for Cyclops, a lot of people's favorite character, he will remain a background character for the first several issues. I'm going to focus on establishing his team. Then, when the time is right, Cyclops will make his grand entrance as the leader of the X-Men. He will be a badass throughout the story and a strong leader. He will also be an integral part of the story, as many characters will be.

Just as a member of the Admin Three, I've got to say I'm super excited for this title! From what I've heard in public and private, I know both X-titles have got a lot of great stuff planned for us. And, for once, Wolverine won't be overused, haha! Thank God for this fan run site.
I enjoyed your Cap and Blade work, Trance. You've definitely improved as a writer. I'm really looking forward to all the awesome X-Man and X-Villain moments in our future!

Jordan has been oddly absent, so I'm going to extend this panel through tomorrow. That being said, the rest of the Con will continue as scheduled. Avengers will launch tomorrow.

Okay, sorry! Work sucks, that's all I've got to say! Anyway, here's what I've got to say!
In January, I'll be launching Uncanny X-Men's sister title:
Title: AllStar New X-Men Subtitle: We Will Inherit the Earth
Heroes: Wolverine, Quentin Quire, Surge, X-23, Beak, Rachel Gray, Stepford Cuckoos, Psylocke, Angel Salvadore, Dazzler, Omega-Sentinel Villains: Proteus, Shadow King, Mastermind, Lady Mastermind, Boliver Trask, Sentinels Support: Cassandra Nova, Emma Frost, Larry Trask
Now, you'll see Wolverine as the first hero on my claims list but he will not be the main focus of the title! In fact,he'll be relegated to a more mentor-ship style character for our young protagonists. In the vain of the original X-Men, my five main characters:
Quentin Quire, Surge, X-23, Beak and Psylocke! Those are the big five players and while everyone else will be important, those are the main ones!

1. Let's start off the same way I did with ReadingTrance: who is your favorite X-Man and X-Villain?
My favorite X-Men is by and large Cyclops. He's everything I've ever aspired to be: cool, loved, a great leader and an intellectual revolutionary for a modern era. Plus, he can shoot lasers from his eyes and, let's all be real, that's AWESOME. My favorite X-Villain, well, I've actually been torn on this in recent months, between Magneto and, the successor to Magneto's dream, Cyclops himself. I love Magneto as a tragic villain, a child of racial and species oppression from everyone everywhere. A genius, a knight for mutants everywhere, a revolutionary and, above all, a man who has become friends with his greatest of enemies. Cyclops has more depth than that tho, as, with Magneto having joined the X-Men, Cyclops has taken his place as the fugitive, anti-human revolutionary of his time. And I think it's a really cool idea and hope that it holds out for a long time in Bendis' hands.
2. How did you find yourself on this project?
We needed an X-Men but I didn't want to really have the main team at that point. As much as I love them, i didn't want to take that opportunity for myself. And ReadingTrance has done a spectacular job taking the freedom fighters to an All-Star level.
3. What can you tell us about each of these Young X-Men? Where do they find themselves at the start of the story?
My main characters, Quentin Quire, X-23, Surge, Beak, Emma Frost, Wolverine and a host of others are a very...different crowd. Quentin will find himself with both humans and mutants at his back, and only one man willing to vouch for him. X-23 is going to be confused and lost in an ever-developing world. Surge is going to be a mutant extremist with an agenda for revenge. Beak is..beak. Emma Frost is an ex-super villain who has turned leaves but not everyone believes her. Wolverine has a shadowed past an a guilty conscience in a never-ending war for retribution.
4. Who is your favorite of these characters to write? Why?
My favorites are either Wolverine or Quire. Wolverine is remorseful but at the same time doesn't let anything hold him back and, at the end of the day, does what needs to be done. Quire, on the other hand, is a genius who doesn't live up to his full potential. Quire is focused on girls, his hair and occasionally world domination, and I see a lot of my youth in the way I write Quire.
5. I feel like it's expected, but I do want to ask: can we expect in romance in the series?
The romance department will be a HUGE part of this series. When I planned this, I pulled from my childhood more than anything. Romance, sex, sports, grades and it's all going to be mixed with a little bit of revolution.
6. Are there any All Star changes in these characters' futures?
Where can I start? I'll give away one All-Star change right now, just to show you guys what's in store: Beak is not the castout kid, or the loner--but the core of his character remains the same. The question to how I've transformed this symbol of bullying and oppression into something...different altogether, you'll have to wait and see.
7. Can you give us any hints of what's to come?
Revolution. Again, I'm basing a lot of this story off my childhood, and as anyone who was raised in the 90's can attest, it was a decade of revolution. Everywhere and everything. Revolution. Mind control. Dark secrets and romance int he hallways!
8. Lastly, how does it feel to be part of a two-man team building up the history and culture of mutants in the All Star-verse?
Amazing. I haven't been this excited for a project since Fantastic Four. Having this rich opportunity to work with such an amazing writer and building the mutant culture is something that so many people would kill for. Any other questions?
