So, I plan to post a teaser and discussion of what's to come and what has come now, and tomorrow or Friday post a "why did you pick this title, etc." type discussion. The Amazing Spider-Man has been a dream to return to. The plot's obviously thickening with a lot of characters and story lines, and I'm looking forward to weaving them together in the future. For those of you not in the know, or maybe those of you who have forgotten, here's a recap of Amazing. Peter's a freshman just starting out college. In fact, as of #5 it's only his first day of classes. Richard Rider is his roommate, and may have barged into the room with a girl. Because of this, Pete met Gwen Stacy, the beautiful daughter of police Captain George Stacy. And before this, he was reunited with his long lost best friend Harry Osborn. Back to the timeline I'd started; Peter ends up fighting Mark Raxton, a gambling obsessed jock (and Liz Allan, Peter's highschool crush's, cousin) who got in with the wrong people and ended up getting turned into a wacko flaming superhuman. A mysterious man in a suit shot both Peter and Mark with tranqs and brought them to *gasp* Norman Osborn (as if he isn't behind everything evil in the world). To make matters worse, Norman revealed he knows Peter's ID (naturally), as does Harry, and that he wants Peter to work for him as a private superhero. Through blackmail and admittedly great benefits, Peter reluctantly agrees. After leaving, he gets attacked by a wacked out energy vampire from another reality named Karn whose sole purpose is to hunt down and kill all the Spider Totems (people with spider powers) throughout the Multiverse. Sound crazy? It is. THEN, the mysterious Spider-Woman shows up, saves Spidey, and is followed by three Spider-Men from alternate realities. One of the Spider-Men dies, gets kidnapped by Harrison Snow who works for Roderick Kingsley, an exec for HYDRA, but ultimately the body disappears when the Master Weaver (the being who controls the Web of Life) sent all the non-All Star people to different realities (although admittedly Superior Spider-Man and Spider-Man Noir left of their own will). This whole shebang tied into Spider-Verse. OH, and I totally forgot to mention that Adrian Toomes, who hates the Kingpin for taking his job, is building up Spidey's Sinister Six with the help of Felicia Hardy, who may or may not be a thief known as The Cat, and who stole Peter's job at the Daily Bugle. Toomes is starting his plan by breaking out Max Dillon, Jason Macendale, and Abner Jenkins from prison. AND Peter met Mary Jane Watson, who in fact runs Spider-Man's personal fan-site. That's totally crazy and I can't believe I just typed that. Quick break and I'll be back to tease the title. And feel free to mention if I missed anything. BTW, if you haven't been reading The Amazing Spider-Man, shame on you! It's crazy and fun and totally my favorite title to write!

OK, before I get into the teasing I've gotta ask....is it just me or is the Heroes line way too big? Like maybe big enough that we should split it into "Heroes" and "Avengers" again.
And the teasing....
SPOILERS!!!!
#6, already solicited, is the next part and the real beginning of Rise of the Sinister Six. I'm still debating if it's going to be offscreen or not (to provide more time for developing Peter and his supporting cast), but there'll be a jail break and Macendale, Dillon, and Jenkins will end up with Toomes. It turns out the three of them have all fought Spidey before, and they've got a serious vendetta against him. Toomes picked them for a reason, and they're about to get a serious upgrade. So, as you'd expect, we get the SHOCKING origin (...I made that joke already) of Electro, Jack O'Lantern and the Beetle, half of my first Sinister Six. Meanwhile, Peter's late to class...and work. But never fear, he's got Gwen Stacy to lighten the mood! And oh boy, does she lighten it. The romance continues, and Peter finally grows a pair.
#7--cheekily titled An Itsy, Bitsy Problem--is the last part in Rise of the Sinister Six. Norman decides to throw a press conference to introduce Spider-Man as his corporate lapdog. Moreover, Norman isn't all too happy with Pete's costume, so....INTRODUCING THE BLACK SUIT! That's right, All Star's own Black Suit Saga begins. As you can imagine, the trouble doesn't end there. It turns out Norman and the Kingpin are business partners, and Toomes plans to unveil his superfreak(s) at the reveal. ...It's only one. What can you do? Toomes underestimated Norman's security. Meanwhile, you get a look into HYDRA, or more specifically--SERVAL INDUSTRIES. That's right, folks, officially introducing Roderick Kingsley AND Mac Gargan.
#8 is the start of "Hero or Menace?," a new arc that focuses on guess what? The moral character of Peter, Spider-Woman, Scorpion and their public perceptions. #8's title is Flying High and is set two months later. Peter and Gwen are succeeding in their relationship, Pete's actually managing to keep his grades up, and with OsCorp's help, dare he admit it, he's becoming a Superior Spider-Man! Hell, even Peter's "cover" job with the Bugle as their personal programmer is going well, and believe or not, JJJ is supporting Spider-Man now that he's working with the "stalwart" Norman Osborn! BUT....tides have turned. theamazingspiderman.com, run by Mary Jane Watson has switched sides, as she's not a fan of Spidey's move at all. Who else dislikes it? Spider-Woman. AND the Sinister Six has risen. Peter's got a lot on his hands in this arc, as he may learn that he's flying....
Too Close to the Sun--the title to #9.
#10- Black and White. Which is both metaphorical and literal (with the black suit and Spider-Woman's white suit). Guess what that means? Team up! Or fighting? Not telling! I wanna leave some secrets.
HERO OR MENACE may end up being longer but that's the plan for now. I also hope to tie in with Stardrifter's Scarlet Spider by #11 (although it may be later) in the start of an arc titled FAMILY MATTERS, which finally brings Amazing to the Clone Saga story I promised. It'll be shorter, not actually a mega arc, and will hopefully be really fun!
I'm really playing the long game with Spider-Man. Everything will begin to come together in HERO OR MENACE, particularly by the end of it.

Believe or not, those aren't the crazy reveals.

I'm not one to post teasers or anything like that. I like to keep things under my hat. Heck I wouldn't even post my full claims list for fear of spoiling things if I didn't have to.
That said, I'll give you some little tidbits.
Why Scarlet Spider? I got into comics due to the 90s X-Men cartoon. I pretty much stayed within the X-Men world for a long time. When I finally branched out a bit, Spider-Man was just about to be taken over by Ben. I didn't have the Clone Saga fatigue other fans had. I loved what I read of the Clone Saga and something about SS just resonated with me. And I like Ben's SS costume more than Peter or Ben's Spider-Man.
Where do the Morlocks fit in? Well like I said, I got into comics because of the X-Men. I've never liked the rift sometimes between X-Men and non mutant titles. If mutants are such a big deal, why aren't other heroes dealing with them too? And what better place for a misfit hero than with misfit mutants...
David Xanatos? The Pack? Is this the Disney Afternoon? I'm a big Gargoyles fan and I've mentioned before how I'd like to see Xanatos in the comic universes. I was mulling some ideas over and it came to me. I asked Drake the official Disney stance, he said as long as the characters fit into our world, and Xanatos and the Pack could be Marvel characters.
Maybe, if things go well, I'd try my hand at the Gargoyles too. But if someone else wants to we can work things out.
Mojo? WTF? So I have some big, exciting plans for Mojo in the future. It'll be some time, but I'll just say the Mojoverse will require a major crossover to deal with.
If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

Anyone have an opinion on the Heroes line division? Should we create an Avengers line?

Post by DiscipleofBob on Dec 17, 2014 22:09:20 GMT -5
I don't think you need to do an Avengers line until Avengers itself actually happens. We can't be certain who's going to be on that roster until it actually happens. I normally don't do these sorts of things, but since this is about building up buzz for titles, I'll just share with you this short little preview for something Adrini and I have been planning since the beginning that will hopefully be coming up in a few months... Coming Soon... AvX That's all for now...

Shouldn't that be AoSvX? Or SvX? Or since SHIELD is already an acronym, AoSHIELDvX? Or...*goes on for days*

I agree that it should be separated. The Avengers section should include Agents, Iron Man, and Thor.

Can't wait to find out who All-Star Spider-Woman is. If they're gonna wear that costume, they better be just as awesome as Spider-Gwen (because she's the best around and nothing's gonna ever keep her down).

Why claim Spider-Man again?
Well, for starters, it's my baby. I wrote what is easily the longest run in All Star Marvel history with the original title, and I wasn't even done with my plans yet. That, of course, is another reason. I didn't get to complete a story. However, I knew this time around I needed something different, including having Peter Parker as the protagonist. Luckily the idea hit me first, not the desire to write Spidey again, and I loved it. Originally, my first mega arc was built around the Clone Saga, but I've decided to shrink that down to one, maybe two arcs and focus instead on an idea that hit me at a later date (after I'd claimed Amazing, actually): the privatization of Spider-Man. It seemed so ludicrous, so fiercely anti-Spider-Man that I knew it was an amazing (pun intended) move. Just look at Superior Spider-Man. It's the most acclaimed run of Spider-Man in recent history and it featured Otto Octavius as the protagonist IN PETER'S BODY! Luckily (or maybe unluckily) there wasn't any outcry. We'll see what people think of the future. In my experience, you can't be afraid to bend and break a few toys to tell a great story. With that said, I can't wait for you guys to see what's next.
Why introduce a secondary protagonist (Spider-Woman) so early on in the title?
For starters, the idea (as with Amazing as a title) hit me and wouldn't get out of my head. I knew I had to include it. More than that, I wanted a hand in the wider ASMU without pushing Peter out of his natural habitat i.e. New York and fun, very personal Spidey adventures. Plus, it puts me in MY environment: mystery.
And the Black Suit? Really? We've seen this a thousand times...
Sure, everyone from DeFalco to Bendis to Greg Weisman has written a black suit story, but why not? It's practically a tradition for Spider-Man. Plus, this will take a slightly different route than the previous many "Peter gets angrier and angrier until he all but ruins his personal life" stories, although that will play a role. Interestingly, Peter MAY blame it on the suit, but it MAY not necessarily be the suit's fault. Star also came up with the original idea for how this Symbiote would be different, so I have to thank him for that.
Why College?
It's the time in Spidey's life I have the least experience with, and I also didn't want to write another highschool character again. BUT I was averse to an adult Spider-Man because of my original run.
And on the characters
Peter Parker is still a kid. A kid, in fact, who's been bulled up until the end of his senior year of highschool. He's never had a girlfriend, never been kissed by anyone but his Aunt and Uncle (RIP) and he's been thrown into a completely new phase of his life. He's obviously excited for it! All the rumors and stories about how fun college is, how great it can be, and Peter will soon find out (as he already has to a certain extent) that college isn't heaven. It's better than highschool, sure, but for him it'll have huge highs and huge lows on and off the battlefield. With those expectations and rocky life experiences comes both a maturity and immaturity to Peter. He genuinely wants to do the right thing, but sometimes he falls. He's human. Expect a lot of screw ups from him.
Gwen Stacy is Peter's primary love interest. She's smart, nerdy, pretty and a bit broken like Peter. That immediately draws the two together.
Mary Jane Watson is exactly who you'd expect her to be....well, unless you expected Ultimate MJ. My Ms. Watson ain't a brain. She's smart, sure, but in her own way. Still, she's an incredibly compelling character because she too is broken in many ways but pushes past her failures and weaknesses to better herself and others.
Catching a theme? Amazing Spider-Man deals with broken people and how they grow and survive in a world out to get them.
Harry Osborn is dying, has an asshole for a Dad, a mother who's left him, and isn't exactly smart or talented. He struggles with drugs, alcohol, and the possibility of his mortality. And, well, I might as well reveal this now. Harry is soon to be revealed as a proud member of the LGBT community. My version of Harry Osborn is a gay man. But wait, you've mentioned he's hooked up with people. It was implied girls, right? Well....you're right, crazy narrator me. Harry's had sex with a number of girls. That doesn't mean it was good or he was really into it. He's still discovering who he is. In fact, THAT's the secret he was going to tell Peter, not that he was dying. Harry originally didn't want to dump that on Peter. He's his best friend, even after years apart. And if you think I'm shoving PCness into the story, grow up. The Marvel Universe needs more colored and LGBT characters. Two of my best friends in the world, both of whom I consider my brother, are gay and bi (and aren't dating! Shocker! /sarcasm).
BTW, while I'm throwing this stuff out here, MJ will be experimenting with both sexes. She'll also be very open about it. That doesn't necessarily mean she is bi, lesbian, OR straight. Just wait and see.
Frankly, the villains are awesome, but discussing them will lead to bigger spoilers than I plan to reveal. I'll just remind you of Norman's multiple personality disorder, and with that, call it a day. I'll be back tomorrow with more.
In case it wasn't clear, I love discussing my titles....especially Spider-Man!

They made Colossus gay in the Ultimate universe, and yet he retained his 100% awesomeness. I like it when characters are changed up. It's something fresh and exciting.

Depends how much or why. If you change people 100% they shouldn't have the same name, there should just be a new character.

As long as you stick with the spirit of the characters, then in my opinion it's fine. Harry isn't defined by his sexuality. I think it works.

That and creating a rip off characters, another comic sin. If you want to use the cap, use the cap. Not someone called the "patriotic avenger" who is *totally* original.

Coming this January.. The Invincible Iron Man! TIIM will be All Star's next step in the leadup to Avengers. While Iron Man isn't my favorite character, I do like him a lot and there's a lot to his character I can play around with. I'm going to go right ahead and say it: I'm changing Iron Man's origin. Trust me, I can hear gasps all the way from here. In the wake of super heroes like Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and the Thunderbolts, billionaire Tony Stark decides he wants to become one too. So, using his massive technological prowess, he designs a power armor and dubs himself "Iron Man." However, Tony will learn that there's more to being a hero than just the recognition. He starts learning this fact the hard way when he comes face-to-face with the Incredible Hulk. There's more to it than that! Meanwhile in China, Stark Industries is working to restore an ancient city. Once the city is brought back up to ground level, an evil entity is freed. I'll give you three guesses who it is. Writing this title will be a blast solely because Tony is an awesome character. I hope you all will read it.
