And there came a day, day unlike any other, when Earth's mightiest fanfiction writers found themselves united to create an incredible universe. On that day, All Star Marvel was founded--to develop stories no single writer could alone!
This panel--more a discussion than a teaser or whatnot--is to celebrate that Initiative and the writers who work so hard to make ASM so great! Really, this could be treated as its own thread outside of the FanCon, since it has relatively little to do with the rest, especially since we don't have any Deadpool Interviews planned this year.
I'll open up with two questions. The first is for SK. When exactly was ASM founded? March 2011, correct? Or am I way off?
The second question is for everyone. If you weren't writing whatever title(s) you are now, or if you could claim another title, OR if there was some title you almost claimed during the initial draft, what would it be/have been/etc.?
I know I'd personally go for Daredevil. I've been craving to write the Man Without Fear for the last month or so, and I'm sad to say even with him open for claiming I can't do so, time constraints being what they are. I'm only a recent DD-fan, but seeing the Netflix show clips at NYCC inspired me to try the title out beyond Mark Waid's run. Miller's is wonderful, I've read a bit of Bendis' and plan to get to it once I'm done with Waid's Flash run, and I'd like to read some of Brubaker's stuff.
I also think claiming DD would be incredibly challenging and fun because it's tone (even under Waid) is so different than almost anything I write. Sure, 'Haven and Knights are street level titles, but I stretch that term. They're very bombastic and adventure oriented. I see them as more Batman Inc. than Detective Comics. With DD, while I know I could read a big time adventure comic, I'd instead challenge myself and push the gritty, street level focus. It would help me develop as a writer in the same way Guardians has by throwing me into a genre I'm not familiar handling (writing-wise).
I'll put up a possible claims list in the future.

You are way off. It was founded on August 2014. August 20th if I had made this thread and the same day I went onto Proboards to make this site. allstarmarvel.proboards.com/thread/1/welcome-allFor the second question, I wish I could continue my Captain America run. I had envisioned so much beyond the original amount that me and Jordan had worked out. I also still write my epic Deadpool story (namely the Dreaded One trilogy). I'm a big fan of Multiverse related tales which is a major part of the trilogy. I also have plans for Daredevil. Namely starting with [REDACTED] and then showing how we got there. I also wish that I do Silver Surfer my original title. But I found I need to know more about Silver Surfer as I can't really motivate myself to write the first issue. Heck, I can't even plan beyond 13 issues and at least 3 of those rely on being tie-ins to a Galactus event. ...despite the final issue being a huge status quo changer to the whole series that could lead to a whole bunch of interesting stories. Yeah, in hindsight probably for the best I never fell through with SS.

The title I wish I could write would be New Avengers (with Ms. Marvel, Luke Cage, Spider-Man, Thing, and Wolverine). I love each and every one of those characters. I can see myself in each one of them. I can be serious like Ms. Marvel and Luke, I can be silly like Spidey, I can be a little slow like Thing, and I can be a little short-tempered like Wolverine. Seriously. O hope maybe I could write this title soon (but probably not, for obvious reasons). I wrote a New Avengers fan fic a while back and people really liked it! I love each of those characters.
I also wish I could write Captain America. I like him leagues more than Iron Man. I really like boyscout characters (like Cyclops, Superman, etc.). I'm not really a big fan of dark characters or selfish characters (and yet I'm writing a title full of dark and selfish characters...).

August 2012 you mean. Huh. Yeah, I don't know why I thought the site was so old.

While I'd probably go for something a little more original and "me" than a plain solo title like this, as of now my DD claims would look like....
Hero: Daredevil (Matt Murdock) Villains: Owl (Leland Owlsley), Purple Man (Zebediah Killgrave), Kingpin (Wilson Fisk), Morbius (Michael Morbius), The Hood (Parker Robbins), Lucifer, Fancy Dan, The Enforcers (Ox, Montana), Bullseye (Lester), Gladiator (title), Silvermane, Silver Sable (Sablinova), Tombstone (Lonnie Lincoln), Elektra Support: George Stacy Wallpaper: Franklin "Foggy" Nelson, Karen Page, NYPD
I'd clean up Jordan's continuity. include a BIT of supernatural baddies, but focus on Nelson + Murdock as a law firm, the underbelly of New York (specifically Hell's Kitchen), and have some fun tying slightly in with Spider-Man (maybe with an eventual crossover).

Posting that really makes me wish I could jumpstart that title....
EDIT: Trying to claim Kingpin. That has nothing to do with DD...probably. Certainly not a title at this time.

I would write a Moon Knight/Ant Man (Scott Lang) team-up title. Combine the fun of Scott Lang's recent appearances with the Moon Knight characterization popularized by Ellis/Shalvey/Bellaire. C'mon then, you know it'd be great!
Moon Knight wants to go fight crime but it's Scott's week with Cassie. Also, his girlfriend, Darla Deering, just got back from a short East Coast tour. What's a shrinkable ex-con to do?
Or alternatively: Scott Lang's got the test results from the crime scene back and he needs to share them with Moon Knight, but he's nowhere to be found! It appears that Marc Spector is not "Marc Spector" at the moment, but is instead the persona that drives taxis. I can't remember that one's name.

I have a lot of ideas for titles. Some work out better than others. The main one I'd like to do but just never got the chance is X-Men. I'd love to do a take that focuses on Xavier and Magneto.
What I want to do, and suggested to Miller when he had the X-Men claims and I was doing Hellfire Club, is to do an X-Men team where Xavier and Magneto are closer in age to their students. Say mid thirties to the X-Men twenties/teens. Xavier can still walk and therefore lead missions with the X-Men. The series would focus on the friendship between the two men and their gradual falling apart. And I could have tons of fun teasing Xavier's paralysis.
I'd also like to have a focus on the school aspect. Not to a teen drama extent, but just some time in the classroom and just how they train the X-Men.
Another idea would be to do a strictly focused Brotherhood title. Following Magneto and his team and really write it from their anti-human perspective. I think it'd be an interesting challenge to do a series where you're trying to paint Magneto and the Brotherhood as "right."

I had some ideas incredibly similar to yours, Star. A young Xavier and Magneto really intrigues me.

OK, I'm not gonna lie. I'll give people a month to pick up a DD title, but if no one does then I'm going to claim him and Foggy for a Spider-Man arc that'll hopefully launch them into their own series. I've already got it planned out, and I need a lawyer anyway. Plus, the arc wouldn't be for a while, and that'll give me time to push the last 8-12 issues of Guardians.
If it wasn't clear, I really want to write Daredevil.
EDIT: And yes, I plan to write Guardians only for what I call its "Season 1." The finale will be anywhere from 16-18. I think that's a nice run, and I'll get to tell my story (although my time with Thanos will NOT be done).

I'd love to write a Thanos title. The whole thing would just be him %^©#ing $#!% up. All for the love of Death.

That would definitely be cool. As part of my grand Thanos/Time travel/crazy shit plans I'm thinking of doing a Thanos mini series or back up.
In fact, I think it would be a back up in my initial Avengers arc. I've got two planned. The first is a fun, slightly more thematic-based arc, while in the second I resolve my lingering timey wimey plot and blow shit up.

I think this might be dying down, but I just want to add a few things. First off, I'm incredibly proud to be an admin of this site. You all are great to work and talk with, and I love reading all of your stories. While there are usually some disagreements about something, no one throws a hissy fit and everyone accepts others' opinions like a mature human being. A year ago, All Star Marvel was struggling. The FanCon drew tons of attention to the site, at least in guest viewings, but writers stayed few and far between. It was Jordan, ReadingTrance and I, I believe, and at times before and after that it was just me. To be honest, even just before we decided to reboot, I'd all but given up on there ever being hope of a large, united site, and today I can proudly say that while we're not yet "big" we're on the up swing. Titles are hitting the continuity mark like never before. We've had a handful of dropped titles, but only one strictly invades continuity and can be fairly easily dealt with. I'm amazed at how far everything has come. Hell, most (if not all) of you probably aren't aware of this but other titles are in the works. I've been pm'd by a couple of great writers about potential new series. What would make all of this perfect would be if Trance, Jordan and mrp returned to help us build our universe. That's one last thing. We did it. We freaking said we'd tie into each other's titles (albeit in minuscule proportions) pre-continuity (issue 5) and not a single title that did so failed to meet its mark. MRP is an incredible writer and a smart guy, but we proved him wrong I'm totally joking around if anyone doesn't get it, haha! Lastly, I'd like to think I'm pretty open-minded about our rules and their interpretation, but I know I can be hard ass sometimes. I just want to say thank you to everyone for dealing with that, not complaining, and in fact calling me out on it when I was being completely crazy. I hope I've improved as an admin, and I hope you guys will help me keep improving. So, if I was physically around you guys I'd present a toast. Since I'm not, I'll just leave with one last thank you, and a final word.... EXCELSIOR!

That was amazing, Drake.
I want to thank you all for accepting me. When I first came here and started writing, I had a few hiccups, but everything turned out well in the end.

I do have one last thing to say. I plan on reviving the "What Could Have Been" thread with the rest of my Spider-Man and Avengers plans in the near (meaning next few months) future.
