I like the fun, flippy tone of the story. It has charm.
The personalities ring well, and the scenes have a nice process to them. It's a nice story so far, and the team set has been very well done.

Nah I know it's from the comic. I just think it's stupid and was venting.

So about a week ago I said I'd make a decision on retconning the language thing. I don't REALLY want to do it, but I'm going to leave the option up to you guys. Sooooo.....I know Star and Dob are pro-retcon, and Jordan seemed fine with the language thing as is, so I'm going to count that as anti-retcon. Anyone else? If that's all we have then I'm just gonna leave it as is.

I can actually work with the language thing.

You could always have universal translators or mind worms. Sci-fi writers have been dealing with this issue for ages.

So is that a vote for the retcon?

If it seems, to you the writer, that this is real logistical concern that breaks up the suspension of disbelief needed for stories in these categories then these are viable options that have been tried and tested. Hichhiker's guide, Star trek, they have been proven.
If, within the universe, you can find a way for this to be the case in a logical way however, (they pulled it off in Firefly) then by all means. I'm more concerned with your writing experience then a minor preference.
So long as the pieces fit and the story remains good I'm good to go. It's just a logistical issue to be worked out. No vote counts as much as yours, only you know where this is going to go.

I certainly see the merit of the argument, but I don't think it's THAT big of a deal, and no matter what I was going to stick with the "alien races messing with humans" thing so....I don't know. I probably won't change it.

Well it makes me feel better about a later story arc I had in mind where Tony goes back to ancient Egypt and has sex with his ancestor, thus creating the mutant race.
Oh yeah and when Howard Stark goes back to the beginning of time and shaves his mustache, whose shavings interact with the Big Bang, thus creating life in the universe.

I know I said I could work with intergalactic common, but I think I could work with universal translators even more.

Oh yeah and when Howard Stark goes back to the beginning of time and shaves his mustache, whose shavings interact with the Big Bang, thus creating life in the universe. Har har. I appreciate the sarcasm. I hope you're aware I'm ripping the aliens experimenting and interacting with humans bit straight from the comics. The Kree created the Inhumans. The Skrulls had undercover agents well before Secret Invasion. There's more... I feel like the response I'm getting is "do what you want, but actually do this" so which is it? Should I use universal translators? Logistically it makes the most sense, but it won't stop me from claiming aliens have been interacting with humans since the dawn of mankind. That's not to say humans haven't developed on their own, but aliens have been around.

I don't have a problem with alien involvement. As I said before, I have a problem with alien involvement to the point of them introducing an entire major language. Since as stated it doesn't logically work. And because it diminishes human achievement.
I will freely admit that I don't know much about this side of Marvel. So if you're staying true to the comic interpretation then I certainly can't argue. I just don't like sci-fi stories that claim human evolution and achievement is largely or even wholly thanks to "someone else."
Some involvement fine. A herding here, a tampering there. But an entire language that developed over generations with many cultural influences? That's a bit much in my eyes.

I know, right? That show on the history channel drives me crazy but I must admit it's quite funny.
The language thing isn't from the comics so...we'll see. Watching a movie now. I'll decide after...if I remember.

I don't know! I don't know! 7....no, no 8. No 7.5. I don't know!!!!
In all seriousness, I was rewatching Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Saw Dawn last weekend and loved it.
I'll retcon the language issue. The rewritten chapter 2 will be up sometime in the next few days.

And issue 2 is changed, just slightly. No more Common being English and whatnot.
Now onto the Spartax Files....

I actually got this done earlier than I thought. It's shorter than the last few, but still over 3000 words.
This is a big issue as far as character development is concerned. The obvious is with Rocket, but Heather and Peter have slightly more subtle but still equally huge changes and development here.
From here on out the plot speeds up. You miss the action? Well, it's coming...ten fold.
EDIT: And wow! One more issue till I'm in continuity! Looks like August will be a HUGE month for Guardians all around.

Not bad. Kind of just a transitional issue with some character moments, but it was nice to slow down after all the action before.
I know it's his thing, but all the I am Groots got kind of annoying. I know you can't get around it, it's the character and you want to be true to it, but God I started to hate it.
I will say that this series has made me think of what I want to do if I ever did a second series here. I won't say any more than that though, since it wouldn't be for some time.
Keep em coming.

Thanks for reviewing!
Yeah, sorry about the 'I am Groots.' I'm going to try to keep Groot's talking to a minimum. Hopefully that means that when he speaks, it's a little funnier or carries a little more weight.
I'm excited for whatever else it is that you have in mind!

I liked it. Pretty much what Star said. It's a nice change of pace from action and more action, though I'd never suggest this series drop in action.
As a recommendation for the Groot problem, you did well in the beginning just with creative formatting and punctuation every time Groot talks, but in the second half of the chapter it all reads the same with no variation. I can understand Groot being a very difficult character to write due to his limitation. I'd suggest a more liberal use of bold, italics, capitalization, ellipses, etcetera when it comes to his dialogue.

Caught up!
The humor is really good, the best part. Rocket was made more human by the loss, which was needed. But it was an easy read and very enjoyable. Well done.

Le gasp! That ending!
But, that's not the important thing. Cosmo next chapter, WOO! Cosmo is love, Cosmo is life.
For real though, great chapter. I didn't see that coming and Groot didn't seem so overdone this time around.
