I know, right? Cosmo's the best! Well, maybe behind Rocket. What is it with me and talking animals?
I'm glad you liked it! That ending is HUGE for Heather's character arc and will lead to big things in the future. AND it's also true to the comics.

That ending, considering the comics I should have seen that coming but it took me completely by surprise.

I'm glad! Originally that opening scene wasn't a part of the issue, but as I started to think about how it would play out, I felt as if I should include it to telegraph the end.

I agree it was a good ending. This issue just seemed a little dull to me. The characters weren't as snappy and fun as I felt they should be. Not that they always have to be, but their banter kind devolved to just, "Shut up!" I dunno, the dialogue let me down this issue.
But some interesting stuff. Keep em coming.

I'm glad you liked the ending! Sorry the dialogue didn't work for you this issue. I can get that. As I wrote it, this definitely felt like one of my weaker issues, at least to me. Anyway, thanks for reading!

Conrgatulations, Drake, you now get to have your title compared to a currently airing successful blockbuster.
In all seriousness, everything in this chapter that reminded me of the movie took me out of the chapter. With the movie so fresh in my mind, everything seems to read a lot more like a fanfic and less like a full original story. Hell, Heather even fits the fanfic stereotype of "Here's my OC who joins the Guardians on their adventures and is the daughter of one of the main characters." Now logically I know that Heather's an actual character and that's not the direction you're going with here, but for the time being you get to be compared directly to the major motion picture until you can differentiate yourself again. It's not your fault at all, well, unless you count the fact that you picked the title knowing full well in advance that you'd be competing with a major motion picture release.

I was aware of the movie before I claimed the title, haha! I was also aware of the potentiality for it to be tough for me to compete. That's part of the reason why I claimed it. It's a challenge. On the plus side, I think I can do Ronan more justice than the movie did, and make Drax a little less movie-y and a little more comic book-y. Also to be fair, this title is technically a fanfic, only hopefully a better-than-average fic. I'd hope for much better than average in fact, haha.
I get it, Dob. No worries. However, I think it's fair to mention though that any similarities between my title and the movie are almost entirely coincidental, because it hadn't come out when I planned out my first story (which is around 16ish issues, I believe). So yeah, while I may have thrown in one scene to honor the movie (or more specifically the trailers) in chapter 4, I haven't directly ripped anything from it. In fact, I'd go as far to say that I'm differentiating pretty far from the movie's plot, beyond the use of Ronan as an initial villain, a prison break (which was the team's origin in the comics), and the characters themselves (excluding Heather of course).
EDIT: I also don't think it's fair to even relate Heather to crappy fic OCs. I get the rest of it, but that comment offends me a bit. She's, as you said, straight from the comics, and while she's been modified quite a bit she's still true to the core of her character (at least in my experience with her). Heather may be the general POV, and she's certainly the least over the top, which might make her the least interesting character (although I'd argue that's Groot), but she isn't uninteresting. I mean, I am the writer, so I'm biased, but I feel like I would've heard more before this if she was horribly boring.

I didn't see much that reminded me of the movie honestly, except the thing about Yondu I guess but that loki's like it's going in a much different direction.

I found out what was bothering me about this title. Heather.
According to Marvel she's a telepath with not only the skills of X, Emma and pre-pheonix Jean but comes off as almost girlish. She's a tough kid, been through hell. I guess I'm just not reading that.
Title is as good as ever. Except for that one things, very well done.

That's a totally fair point. Truth is, for my story I didn't want to start Heather as a telepath. It's coming though. Not immediately, but soon enough you'll see Heather with a much more Moondragon mindset and powerset.

The longest-running, most-reviewed title in Nu Star continuity is back!
...with a short issue. However, I think I may move to this format in the future, similarly to my original run on Spider-Man. I think I can get plenty done in 2500 words.

If it helps you picture Blackshot, I imagine he looks like the MCU's Winter Soldier, only bald with no metal arm and some Nebula-like metallic pieces on his head.

I'm not sure I can give much of a review of this issue other than I liked it. Cosmo's intro was good but apart from that nothign really stood out it was just a solid issue, which is a good thing though.

Yes! Gamora!
Er, I mean...it was nice to see my favorite Guardian. I don't mind short issues at all. I really want to start reading the comics so I can get the movie out of my head. I'm sure this title will be amazing once the team is fully established. I really liked Cosmo and his Russian accent.
Not too much to say about this. You're doing a good job here.
The issue: 7/10
The title so far: 7.5/10

Well...It...Uh...Ummm...
This is why it sucks to write a title that, in the real world, has a movie (Guardians of the Galaxy is even coming to DVD soon). You're at issue seven and the the title is still having trouble finding its heart. Rocket and Groot are what make this title great, but Star-Lord and Heather drag it down. Rocket and Groot are great foils to each other. Peter and Heather? Eh...Not so much. This is why Gamora needs to be on the team. She and Peter are great foils to one another, and hell, Drax is a foil to himself!
I'm resisting every urge to scream "Take out Heather and replace her with Gamora and Drax!" like an angry fanboy. Am I biased? Definitely. I enjoyed the $#!% out of the movie, and I'm just disapointed that this title's not as good as the movie. I hate myself for being in that mindset. This title has some wicked potential. It is in no way a bad title. It's good, but it's not great. I don't want you to change anything in this title just to please me.
Personally, I think Amazing is better than this. You are no doubt a good writer. I apologize if I sounded like a jackass in this review. I hope you continue this title, because it's really good.
The issue: 6/10
The title so far: 7/10

Honestly, I'm surprised the movie hasn't had more of an effect on people so far. And yeah, it definitely sucks, but I also like the challenge. One of the ways I decided to face the challenge (knowingly claiming the title with the movie on the way) was by having a different cast of heroes. Peter had to stay, since he is the leader, and Rocket and Groot are easily my favorites, but the rest I went with a little more DnA (as in the writers) approach. Also, if I did make Gamora a member of the team, she may not necessarily have the movie Gamora's personality, since I have more experience and love for the comics (at least for Gamora). Drax is a similar situation.
I'm sorry the title's not as good as the movie, but honestly that's to be expected. They go through dozens of rewrites and it's a film itself, which tends to be easier on people than prose. Even more importantly than that, I'm still an amateur writer.
You don't sound like a jackass. Honestly, I get it. I will say that I'm not going to change any of my plans for the future. Who knows? Maybe you'll like where I'm headed.
Also, if you don't mind explaining what you'd define as the heart of a title? Because people use that saying all the time, but never really add meaning to it. I'm sorry if Isound like a jackass. I'm just genuinely curious on how to better the title.

I may have exaggerated about the "heart." Rocket and Groot are the heart of this title, so there's that.
I don't think Heather has ever been in any carnation of the Guardains (that I know of), so her being a part of your carnation is a little jarring, and I'm just not used to it yet. I also have some more bias: Gamora is my second favorite female Marvel character, and my fifth favorite overall. There's a small part in my brain that's yelling "omg hes not using Gamora right" that I have to ignore.
I really do hope I like your plans for the future, and I'll try to, as well. Every writer has their own visions for their characters, and it's up to the reader to accept that.

She was in the Guardians of the Galaxy incarnation that Star-Lord formed (The OG Guardians are from the year 3000. Heather is Moondragon in the comics btw.

SK said it. Heather Douglas is Moondragon. While I'll respect the comics, I might be taking a slightly different path with her...

Moonstone. Moondragon is a jerk, but not a villain.

So I don't get why people keep bringing up the movie in here. We aren't writing movies. They don't stop comics because movies come out(except F4 ha!)
There are Spider-Man movies. X-Men movies. Avengers, Cap, a SHIELD show, etc yet it's just Drakes GotG title that people keep bringing up the movie on. We are a fan fiction site doing prose stories.
That said, Drake your 7 chapters of fan fiction online isn't as good as a 2 hour Hollywood blockbuster movie with millions of dollars invested in it! You suck!
As for the issue itself, not bad. I would like to finally get to a team being formed. I'm kinda tired of every issue devolving into all of them angrily shouting at each other. Some comradery and fun would be nice. Of course they'd butt heads but I'm just ready for the end of the "coming together" phase.
Other than that it was solid. I liked Cosmo and his save at the end. Keep em coming.

Okay, that was good.
The characters are really starting to shine out, and it's nice to see. The action was good but woven in with the story so it wasn't separated. It was really fun to read.
